IT COMES TO PASS Y llega a suceder, una inversión temporal de la frase bíblica, es tanto una declaración de lo inevitable—cada resultado siguiendo al siguiente—como una descripción de una locomotora que encuentra su camino, no hacia un destino, sino hacia más vías. En una reflexión surrealista sobre la estética de atravesar un paisaje desconocido, el viaje aparece como medio de desplazamiento en el mundo y como anfitrión de apariciones de lo inquietante.
Una selección de nuevas obras de Raychel Carrión, continuación de su serie Bifurcaciónes, mostrada en 2023 en Barcelona. Esta serie de paisajes viales representa un giro con respecto a sus obras anteriores en grafito, las cuales se centraban en representaciones abstractas de la violencia estatal bajo la dictadura en Cuba. Los dibujos hiperrealistas de Carrión muestran paisajes oníricos de carreteras de asfalto, cada uno transformado por objetos incongruentes: algunos cubiertos de ovillos de lana, otros delineados con tubos fluorescentes o resquebrajándose para revelar cuerpos de agua. Esta será la primera vez que el trabajo en grafito de Carrión se exhiba en Chicago, tras su performance en 2012 como parte de ARTE NO ES FÁCIL en Links Hall.
La obra de Ruby Que continúa de forma paralela una serie, desarrollando sus trabajos titulados Travelogue I y II, una instalación de video protagonizada por un tren en miniatura que transporta un pequeño proyector. A medida que el tren recorre las vías, el video en blanco y negro en 16 mm se distorsiona por las distintas distancias y texturas de las paredes sobre las que se proyecta. Las instalaciones que lo acompañan intervienen de manera sutil, refractando la luz y deslizándose dentro de la arquitectura. Estas obras profundizan y refinan el tono del interés de Que en el viaje como tema, y amplían las piezas instalativas mostradas en Vanishing Point en el Chicago Artists Coalition y Closer en la University of Illinois Springfield Visual Arts Gallery.
Ruby Que es una artista interdisciplinaria enfocada en intervenciones específicas del sitio y performances de cine expandido. Juega con la luz para abrir portales y crear apariciones. A partir de su experiencia vivida como persona queer, inmigrante y nómada, medita sobre el anhelo y encuentra pertenencia en el tránsito.
Switch-Hook Projects es un proyecto curatorial itinerante con base en Chicago. Switch-Hook utiliza espacios disponibles en toda la ciudad para exhibir el trabajo de artistas locales e internacionales.

IT COMES TO PASSIt comes to pass, a temporal inversion of the biblical phrase, is both a declaration of the inevitable—each outcome following the next—and a description of a locomotive finding its way, not toward a destination, but to more rail. In a surreal rumination on the aesthetics of traversing an unknown landscape, travel appears as the means of worldly displacement and the host for apparitions of the uncanny.
On view will be a selection of new works by Raychel Carrión, a continuation of his Bifurcaciónes series shown 2023 in Barcelona. This series of road landscapes is a departure from his earlier works in graphite, which focus on abstracted representations of state violence under dictatorship in Cuba. Carrión’s hyperrealistic drawings depict dreamlike landscapes of asphalt roads each transformed by incongruous objects. Some littered with balls of yarn, others delineated by fluorescent tubes or cracking open to reveal bodies of water. This is the first time Carrión’s work in graphite will be shown in Chicago, following his performance in 2012 as a part of ARTE NO ES FÁCIL at links hall.
Ruby Que’s work similarly continues a series, building on their works titled Travelogue I and II, a video installation of a model train carrying a small projector. As the train navigates the track the black and white 16mm video becomes distorted by the varying distances and textures of the walls it is projected onto. Accompanying installations intervene quietly, refracting light and slipping into architecture. These works build on and refine the tone of Que’s interest in travel as subject matter and expand upon their installation pieces shown in Vanishing Point at the Chicago Artists Coalition and Closer at the University of Illinois Springfield Visual Arts Gallery.
Ruby Que is an interdisciplinary artist focusing on site-specific interventions and expanded cinema performance. They play with light to open portals and create hauntings. Drawing from their lived experience as a queer, itinerant immigrant, they meditate on yearning and find belonging in transit.
